Kurt's favorite primer the pink Larsen's Plaster Weld can be found at good suppliers or via mail. Here we seem to have USG Diamond products, veneer and base coat, and sometimes simple Structolite for base coat. Kurt uses veneer plaster products available on the west coast which I don't find on the East coast. Once you trowel it and it dries it's done. He uses gypsum-based veneer plaster products. He is long-winded as hell but his method is sound. If you're going to do it yourself I recommend watching some Kurt Giordono on YT. It’ll look better, last longer, use period-correct products, and then you don’t have to worry about skim-coating over the washers or whatever you have to do for plaster magic. It seems the best option is just to remove loose areas (where the keys have broken off) and then start with fresh sanded lime plaster with horsehair for strength and durability. I haven’t used any of the plaster adhesive products and I don’t think we’ll probably go that direction when we end up starting plaster repairs. Haven’t quite gotten that far - I was running a little experiment when we opened up a wall to see if I could apply plaster on the back of the lathe (or on the inside of the wall) to replace broken keys.

Also not sure if the top coat is the same sanded lime plaster or if there’s a different top coat to use. I’m not quite sure if the next coat over top is also this sanded product, just without the horse hair, or if it’s a different product. I purchased this, the Lime Putty Plaster / Stucco Basecoat and also the horse hair. I’m so sorry, I missed this message! No, that’s not what I purchased.
